Alexandre Trindade Nieuwendam

   Alexandre Nieuwendam is a PhD student in Physical Geography at the Institute of Geography and Spatial Planning and researcher at the Center for Geographical Studies at the University of Lisbon. He has a Masters in Physical Geography on Active Layer Thermal Regime and Permafrost in the Hurd Peninsula (Livingston Island, Antarctica). His current research topic is the paleoenvironmental reconstruction of the cold environments of Serra da Estrela.

   His research interests focus on the geomorphological dynamics of polar and mountain environments. He participated in five Antarctic campaigns between 2006 and 2012, with the Bulgarian, Brazilian and North American Antarctic expeditions and one in the Arctic in Adventdalen and Sassendalen, Svalbard.

   Alexandre is one of the co-founders of APECS international and is currently a member of the council. He is also president of the Permafrost Young Research Network (PYRN).
