Hugo Guímaro

Hugo Guímaro

   Hugo Guímaro is a Biosciences PhD student at the University of Coimbra (Portugal), based at the Marine and Environmental Science Centre (MARE) and at the British Antarctic Survey (BAS) in the United Kingdom.

   His research focuses on Antarctic marine animal ecology with a particular interest in ecological interactions of apex predators (e. g. Emperor Penguins) to climate change and conservation in the Southern Ocean, using new technologies like satellite imagery, tracking and modelling. 

   Besides his scientific work, he is highly involved in education and outreach activities related to polar science, raising awareness for environmental issues.

   He is a member of APECS Portugal, since 2018, and was President in 2020 and 2021. In APECS International, he is the Representative of Portugal and the National Committee Coordinator, being the point of contact between early carrer scientists from all over the world.
