José Abreu

José Abreu

   José Abreu is a marine biologist currently on his PhD at the Centre of Marine and Environmental Sciences, in the University of Coimbra (PT) and at the British Antarctic Survey (UK). He is also the current vice-president of APECS Portugal. Graduated in Biology (University of Aveiro) and Master in Ecology (University of Coimbra), his research focuses on commercial fishing, mainly longline, its impacts and evolution in the last decades, as well as the ecological response of the target and accessory species, in the Southern Ocean. He was 3 months aboard a fishing vessel in the NAFO zone and a 3-month mission to an Antarctic scientific base. In the last 6 years she has participated in more than 50 science outreach activities.
